70’s heartthrob and lead singer for The Partridge Family, David Cassidy died Monday of complications stemming from a severe case of chicken pox. He was 67. “He was fine last week”, said his publicist Jo-Ann Gelfen. “The mysterious ‘bird flu’ like symptoms came upon him rather quickly. We thought he'd come thru, but then he took a tern for the worse", she said. Cassidy had his detractors and several attempts on his life had been made. Police are looking into it but at this point don’t suspect fowl play. In 1981 a distraught fan tried to hit him with a crowbar during a live performance in Santa Monica. "All this flap about my not being a serious musician doesn’t affect me at all. They’re just trying to worm their way into my psyche. I know my music doesn't appeal to everyone, but I don't give a hoot what people think of me", he was quoted as saying. Cassidy had a reputation of not rehearsing with the other members of the Partridge Family band. "Most of the time he'd just wing it", said fellow band member Danny Boniducci. "Even tho he didn't like to rehearse, his ability to sing harmony was impeccable. All the chicks loved him", he said. Record producers actually auditioned Bobby Sherman, another 70's teen idol but said that he just didn't fit the bill. "It was a real feather in my cap even to be considered to play in the Partridge Family band.", Sherman tweeted when hearing the news of Cassidy's death. "Friends and family will fly in from all over the country", said his wife, Robin, Services will be held at the Crane funeral home on Sunday where Steven Hawking will deliver the eulogy.
